Another blockbuster trade and a team climbs up the draft ladder to grab what they think will be the franchise-turning player. Last week it was the Los Angeles Rams dumping a dearth of draft picks on the Tennessee Titans for the first overall selection. Now, it’s the Chip Kelly-less (are we sure?) Philadelphia Eagles handing over a similar pile of picks for the second overall selection from the Cleveland Browns.

My initial reaction is that the Browns aren’t this smart. I think we all expected Cleveland to hem and haw, taking whatever quarterback the Rams didn’t just to ravage his almost NFL potential with the weights of a tortured city and hapless management, spitting him out with the rest of Cleveland’s 88 quarterback failures from the last two decades. That or they’d take a running back.

Instead, they have found the proverbial dance partner and moved away from an uncertain quarterback prospect to pile up dice rolls to gamble on potential players. Is this finally the start of sane and sound personnel decisions in the Sixth City? RGIII will tell us soon…

As for the Eagles, this feels like a Chip move, doesn’t it? Are we sure he doesn’t have some sort of automated sky net system still in control in Philly? Why would you pay that much for Sam Bradford only to turn around and pay that much to move up for another signal caller? Maybe the Eagles think that whomever the Rams don’t take will need two years to develop? Is Bradford being paid to be Brett Favre in the hopes this mystery quarterback is Aaron Rodgers?

The long shot scenario (my favorite) is that the Eagles have mortgaged the farm for… wait for it… the actual best player in the draft, Laremy Tunsil. Ta daa! If they paid they’re quarterback in Bradford, wouldn’t it make sense to go hard after protection for him? This sounds crazy to everyone. Well the crazies are the ones in charge if you ask me. Build a line. It all starts at the line. Sure you need a quarterback in the NFL but even a great quarterback can’t win on his back. A great line will make Sam Bradford look like he might be worth most of the contract he just signed and Tunsil is the best place to start. If Sam gets hit, like at all… it’s not good.

So it looks like the Eagles have no direction and the whole league is pissed at them for paying Sammy Band-aid so much, with Brock walking and whatnot, and now the only thing anyone can figure out is that they’re going hard for another spheroid slinger. My mock does not reflect it, but I hope they shock the world, make the sound football decision and take Tunsil.
